A slice of Europe in Beaumont
This European-style oasis in Adelaide’s foothills features picturesque views and more than 1600 square metres of spacious living.
When Kate Zhou entered this Beaumont home three years ago, she felt she had found her family’s dream house.
Originally from China, Kate and Frank moved to Adelaide with their two children for the peace and quiet.
“It’s quite different from Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai – it’s a very peaceful and beautiful city,” says Kate, who works in consulting.
Kate has also spent time in Sydney for work, but says the busy crowds were more comparable to the bustling cities she was used to, where Adelaide offered a calm unlike anywhere else.
Beaumont’s proximity to Burnside Village, Mount Osmond and a suite of great schools made this home the perfect location, not to mention its outstanding views.
“Every window is like a beautiful landscape painting,” Kate says.

The views from the kitchen as she eats breakfast by the window, and the sunsets from the dining room as the family eats dinner together are what Kate says she will miss the most.
“I’ll miss drinking coffee in the morning and watching thetrees and the flowers in the garden,” she says.
“Sometimes before dinner the children will watch the sunset and take photos from the balcony.
“They’re beautiful unforgettable memories.”
The old-world charm of the Mediterranean-style exterior, built in 1972, with grand archways and European-style terraces, lends itself to a home that might be found across the globe, rather than Adelaide, so Kate and her family call it their “family resort”.
The home features five bedrooms, threebathrooms and multiple living spaces that flow together, but can also be separated.
Even though it is two levels, most of the rooms are located on the top floor, and the lower level is completely self-contained with its own kitchen and bathroom, in addition to a games room, a home theatre and a wine cellar.

The interiors are light and bright with stone features, timber accents and vaulted ceilings that reflect the grandeur of the exterior.
The property’s rear is also north facing, allowing sunlight to stream through the arched windows all year-round.
It feels contemporary yet classic and in three years the only changes Kate and Frank have made have been to the floors, replacing the tiles in the kitchen and multiple living spaces with floorboards to add warmth and installing tiles in other areas.
Multiple living areas create break out spaces that make this the perfect family home and well-suited to entertaining.
“We can read or play chess by the fireplace and watch movies on the projector in the entertaining room, which the children love,” Kate says.
“We play ping pong downstairs and sometimes we have friends over to do yoga by the pool.
“We read stories to the children before bedtime in the living room near the bedrooms and we can close the big tiffany blue folding doors to separate the two living rooms if we have people over.”
Kate and Frank are now moving interstate for their children’s schooling but Kate says she will miss the views and the quiet of their Beaumont family home.
