Heritage meets resort-style renovation in Prospect

This 1915 heritage home has been renovated to blend its contemporary resort feel with traditional bones, featuring a sauna, swimming pool, gym and wine cellar.

When Heath and Adriana first stepped inside 10 Le Hunte Avenue Prospect, they immediately recognised its extraordinary potential.

“The house was reflective of its time and included a varying rainbow of pastel colours on all walls throughout the home. It needed work, but the bones were spectacular,” says Heath, a commercial landscaper.

“There was an undeniable feeling about it,” Adriana adds.

“We knew it was a rare opportunity – it just needed vision and care.”

Since purchasing the property in 2013, the couple has undertaken two carefully considered renovations, thoughtfully evolving the home for contemporary living while preserving and celebrating its 1915 heritage.

Their first renovation focused on restoring the home’s original character and elevating it to modern standards.

This comprehensive update included full rewiring, upgraded fixtures, bathroom renovations, and meticulous restoration of the original timberwork.

To incorporate three key features — a swimming pool, a sauna and a generous lawn area for their son — the existing extension was reconfigured.

“We slightly reduced the size of the previous extension, which allowed us to position the pool along the side boundary and create space for the sauna and equipment, while still maintaining a substantial lawn area,” Heath says.

“The configuration has made daily living so much easier,” Adriana says.

“You can enter directly from the car, step into the butler’s pantry or kitchen, and unload shopping with ease. Logistically, it simply makes sense — and the flow is beautiful.”

The rear living zone has been designed with both family life and entertaining in mind. Expansive bifold glass doors open to create one cohesive indoor-outdoor space, overlooking the pool and landscaped surrounds.

Adriana says the home has a genuine resort feel.

“The space feels elevated and calming — almost like you’re away from home while still enjoying everyday life,” she says.

While embracing modern luxury, preserving the home’s character was paramount. The couple engaged interior designer Georgie Shepherd to ensure a seemless transition between old and new.

“What we didn’t want was a stark, ultra-modern box attached to a period home,” Heath says.

“Georgie ensured the materials and detailing respected the original architecture.”

Marble finishes throughout the kitchen and living tie the areas together, while reeded glass — featured in hallway doors and the cavity slider between the butler’s pantry and kitchen — offers a subtle nod to the home’s heritage.

Meanwhile, the traditional facade remains intact, says Adriana.

“From the front, the home looks just as it always has,” she says.

“The return veranda, the separate entry, and the original stained glass have all been carefully preserved. Nothing disrupts the character.”

As you move through the home, the transition between old and new is natural and considered.

“It doesn’t feel like two different homes,” Adriana says.

“It flows effortlessly.”

As a commercial landscaper, Heath was deeply involved in crafting the outdoor environment. Plant selection and spatial flow were integral to achieving the desired aesthetic.

“The landscaping was incredibly important to me,” Heath says.

“It allowed me to explore the more creative aspects of what I love about our industry.”

Buxus spheres echo the architectural curves of the rear extension, magnolias along the eastern boundary provide privacy and scale, and mature ficus soften the masonry boundary walls.

Having lived in Prospect for two decades, Adriana and Heath have watched the suburb evolve into one of Adelaide’s most vibrant lifestyle destinations.

“The transformation has been remarkable,” Adriana says.

“Prospect Road is now filled with incredible restaurants, cafes and entertainment options. There’s such energy here.”

While they will miss living in a completed home of this calibre, the family is seeking more space as their son grows and their extended family gathers more frequently.

The sale of 10 Le Hunte Avenue, Prospect, is being handled by Sally Cameron and James Campbell of Toop+Toop.
