Hailing from the Barossa Valley, Mark and his family purchased the home in 2018, providing an Adelaide base for their children to attend high school.

Now, with his sons working alongside him at his business Kellermeister Wines, the family is returning to live exclusively in the Barossa.

“Now our boys are working in the winery full-time it makes sense that we live in the region where we now all work,” Mark says.

Since owning the address, the family has commissioned an extensive two-year renovation of the home, inspired by Mark’s global travels as a winemaker.

Mark spared no expense creating what he believes is one of the best temperature-controlled residential wine cellars in Adelaide.

“For each area of the home, I took inspiration from somewhere I’ve travelled as a winemaker and taken the family to, particularly France, but also the Napa Valley and Northern Italy,” says Mark.

“My wine cellar – my baby – was inspired by a friend’s winery cellar in Piedmont.”

With Kensington Gardens reserve at its doorstep, 38 East Terrace is surrounded by landscaped gardens and manicured hedging on a block of almost 1500 square metres.

“Being next to the park, the location provides so much space to go for walks, play sport and have a hit of tennis,” Mark says.

“You feel very free and connected to the beautiful natural surrounds.”

The home has provided a wonderful backdrop for the children’s teenage years with the swimming pool and al fresco area, which are ideal for hosting friends.

It’s also a short drive to the cafes, restaurants, shops and cinemas on The Parade.

“Close access to schools is very handy with Pembroke and Prince Alfred College just down the road,” Mark says.

The family invested in the highest-quality finishes throughout the extensive renovations.

“We were fortunate to be able to live in our Barossa home while the work was being done,” Mark says.

The result is a spectacular character home with luxurious modern interiors that tie beautifully with the home’s heritage DNA.

The bespoke Jag kitchen was inspired by a high-end New York steakhouse and the classic wine merchant shops of Bordeaux.

The kitchen features Carrara marble and bespoke brass fittings, matched by European appliances and a custom-made timber ladder in the butler’s pantry.

“I love my food and my daughter and I love to cook, so the amazing Bordeaux-inspired kitchen is the heart of the home,” Mark says.

“From the kitchen, you can see the expanse overlooking the park to the front of the house.”

The master suite was modelled after Edinburgh’s romantic Prestonfield House, with deep reds and Manuel Canovas curtains.

This bedroom has its own dressing room, a marble ensuite and reserve views, creating everyday luxury for the heads of the house.

Bold and rich colour schemes are paired with herringbone timber flooring to emphasise elegance.

The home is decorated with ornate chandeliers, wall sconces and traditional fireplaces with decorative mantles.

The Victorian-era inspired interiors also carry touches of Italianate influence and contemporary touches.

Across the expansive grounds, a vine-covered alfresco pavilion with built-in barbecue overlooks the sparkling swimming pool, adjacent cabana and self-contained granny flat.

Mark says he is sure that the home’s next custodian will love its many features as much as he has.

“I love the high ceilings, the natural light, our large dining room and the quality of the finishes we have procured from all around the world,” he says.

The sale is being handled by Sally Cameron and James Campbell of Toop+Toop.
