The wife of a real estate agent who was horrifically mauled by dogs says her husband is haunted by the vision of the “psychopathic” canines attacking him.

Ajay Malik was left fighting for his life when he was set upon during a routine run on Brisbane’s north side last month.

His wife of one year, Ema Sirohi, said the dogs took a chunk from one of Malik’s bicep and badly chewed up both his ears and upper lip.

While in hospital, he has battled pneumonia and blood clots and still requires more surgeries. But while his physical injuries would heal, Sirohi said the mental struggle would be harder.

“He’s feeling that pain that they’re still attacking him. That can’t go away from his mind,” she told The Courier Mail.

“He can’t sleep because whenever he closes his eyes, he’s just seeing the dogs, and they were attacking him like psychopaths.

“He’s yelling. He’s crying, and he’s repeating these things.”

Sirohi said the trauma was sad because Malik had been a dog person and loved big dogs.

“The first time I saw him [after the attack], I couldn’t believe my eyes, and that thing is not going away from my mind,” Sirohi said.

“I know it’s a temporary feeling, but I have no faith in humanity right now. I’m just feeling too many things.

“I know there are good people who are trying to help but because of this situation, it’s more negative things that are affecting us during this time.”

The dogs – which were captured by police – attacked Malik as he ran on the bikeway that cuts through Seventh Brigade Park on Kittyhawk Drive in the suburb of Chermside in October.

Malik was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.

The owner of the dogs, who is homeless and said she had been living in a tent at the park, was arrested for an unrelated matter shortly after Malik was attacked.

One was captured two hours after the attack on Malik. The second dog was not captured until the next day, with local runners initially warned to be wary of a dangerous dog still on the loose.

Both dogs were shot by police while being captured and were treated by a vet before being surrendered to Brisbane City Council. One dog later died of its gunshot injuries.

Friends of Malik launched a GoFundMe to help with ongoing medical costs and lost income while he recovers.
