Sam Wood, star of The Bachelor season three, will remain behind bars until at least Thursday.

Former Bachelor star Sam Wood is “worried about his family” and will fight domestic violence charges following his arrest on Saturday night.

Wood, 46, was stood down by the fitness empire he fronts after being arrested on the Sunshine Coast and charged with the domestic violence offence of assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation in a domestic setting.

The Melbourne-based fitness influencer was arrested after police received reports of alleged domestic violence at a Noosa property on Saturday night.

On Monday, Woods’ lawyer Matthew Cuskelly, confirmed Wood would apply for bail after the matter appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court.

“He’s simply worried about his family. A bail application will be heard on Thursday,” he said.

“The charges will be defended.”

A statement addressing the charges was posted to Woods’ social media and that of wife Snezana Markoski on Monday. It was shared with Wood’s 253,000 Instagram followers, saying the family was “working through this”.

“This is a difficult time for all of us,” the statement said.

“We are working through this as a family and are thoroughly co-operating with the authorities.”

It was the first public comment from Markoski – who met Wood on The Bachelor in 2015 – since Saturday’s arrest.

The couple have been together ever since, and are one of the show’s longest-standing couples.

Markoski already had a daughter, Eve, now 21, when she met Wood. The couple have since welcomed three more daughters together Willow, 9, Charlie, 7, and Harper, 4.

On Monday, the wellness businesses behind the platform said Wood had been stood down indefinitely following the charges.

“DBG Health, the parent company of 28 by Sam Wood, has zero tolerance for domestic violence,” a DBG Health spokesperson said.

“While the matter is under investigation and before the court, Sam Wood is on indefinite leave from his duties.

“Our thoughts are with the family and anyone in the community affected by domestic violence.”

The company said Mark Watkins, 28 Group’s chief operating officer, would head the business in Wood’s absence.

“We have all been shocked and saddened by the matters involving Sam Wood,” Watkins said in a separate statement posted across the fitness and nutrition business’s social media platforms on Monday.

On Monday, Queensland Police confirmed Wood was charged after officers received reports of alleged domestic violence and went to an address in Hastings Street, Noosa, about 9pm on Saturday.

Wood did not appear in court when his matter was heard on Monday.

It was adjourned until Thursday for the bail application.
