Well-known SA beauty bar calls in liquidators
A body sculpting beauty clinic frequented by SA influencers has locked its doors just four days after promising “exciting changes” on social media.
Mile End body sculpting spa “The Gym” – which opened in 2019 and has about 25,000 Instagram followers – has permanently closed after calling in liquidators.
The company behind the Gym Beauty Group, Adelaide Beauty Academy, SkinRX and Elara announced the closure by sharing the liquidators statement in a post to social media on Thursday afternoon.
The Gym’s clients include radio host and Adelaide personality Jodie Oddy, who plugged the brand on the air, and Adelaide influencer Rylee Cooper who has about 80,000 Instagram followers on her page Date Night Adl.
It was placed into liquidation on August 5, with Stephen James from BCR Advisory appointed as the liquidator.
James was in talks with a potential buyer for the business that but the sale was unsuccessful, the statement said.

“After a short period of negotiation, the purchaser decided not to proceed with the sale,” the Liquidator’s statement said.
Beatriz Masiero Vrettos started her business in December 2019 in Port Adelaide, and opened “The Gym” as a “punny, results-focussed” brand in Mile End in 2021.
She then acquired Adelaide Beauty Academy in 2022, launched a cosmeceutical skincare line SkinRx in 2023, and opened Elara medspa in Burnside, which she claimed was the “biggest medspa within a shopping centre” nationwide.

The business turned off the social media comment feature on its post announcing the closure, which included the liquidators statement with the caption “we are so sorry”.
It comes just days after the brand made a social media post on August 10 saying “we’re currently working through some exciting changes”.
The August 10 post said they intended to continue to provide services at “The Gym” on Henley Beach Road and Elara Medspa at Burnside Village, which opened in August 2025.
That post included comments claiming “my partner had an appointment today and turned up to locked doors and not answering his calls” and “this is disappointing considering I had a Mother’s Day voucher”.
Another comment said, “So sorry to hear this, you guys were amazing”.
The business directed gift cards and deposit holders to the liquidator and said all future bookings were cancelled.
