Blaze forces evacuation in regional town
Residents of an Eyre Peninsula town have been evacuated after a truck fire caused smoke to billow through its streets.
SA Police and SA State Emergency Service volunteers have evacuated Railway Terrace in Kimba after a truck fire caused smoke to spread through the town, while a 150-metre exclusion zone has also been established.
SAPOL said the Eyre Highway will be also closed until 5pm on Thursday while emergency services work to extinguish the fire and make the area safe.
Six fire trucks with 25 CFS volunteers assessed the burning vehicle but no “at risk” materials were discovered.

As of 9.14am, the fire was contained to the two rear trailers of the truck, while the front trailer and prime mover have been saved, with a total estimated damage of $300,000 caused by the blaze.
Crews were expected to remain on scene for the next few hours, with CFS encouraging people to avoid the area where possible, to drive to local conditions and to follow emergency services directions.
CFS has also issued a warning to avoid smoke in Kimba, saying it can affect health.
According to the CFS, symptoms of smoke inhalation include shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing, burning eyes, a runny nose, chest tightness, chest pain, dizziness and light-headedness.
