Mayhem across SA as flooding sweeps away cars
Three people have been rescued and their cars swept away in floodwater in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. See the videos.
Sports clubrooms have been flooded, two cars were swept away and three people rescued as warnings continue to be issued across the state after heavy rain inundated the state.
Police and emergency services were called to Wingate Rd and Winzor Rd, in Hillier, after reports a car had driven into the flooded area about 4.50am on Monday morning.
A man and a woman inside the vehicle managed to climb out of the car windows.
Then while police were helping the pair, another car drove into trouble.
A man driving the car managed to escape and he was taken to safety, but both vehicles were washed away by the floodwaters, police said.
A police spokesman today told ABC Radio that “both cars have since been washed away by the floodwater and we reckon they are somewhere in the Gawler River”.
Police are also on the scene at Port Wakefield Road and Salisbury Highway at Mawson Lakes, where water from nearby wetlands has flooded the intersection.

At least 2 cars were stuck in the intersection and Port Wakefield Road is closed for all southbound vehicles.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a minor flood warning for the Bremer River saying heavy showers across the Mt Lofty Ranges has resulted in significant river and stream level rises in the Bremer River catchment.
Minor flooding is occurring along Bremer River at Wandstead Rd.
On Monday morning the bureau said Lenswood, in the Mount Lofty Ranges, recorded a total rainfall of 110.2mm since Friday night.
Coromandel East had 101.1mm – while, in the state’s Far North in the Gammon Ranges, there were reports of 98mm of rain.
Leigh Creek Airport received 64.4mm and Olympic Dam had 33.8mm.
There were reports fallen rocks had closed Gorge Road at Paracombe and the Athelstone Football Club rooms were flooded with a spokesman saying an Under 15 football games was halted because of lightening and rain just before water poured into the building.

City of Salisbury West Ward Councillor Beau Brug shared a live video with his followers on Facebook of a road blocked at Mawsons Lake due to flooding, saying “Dry Creek is anything but dry” and encouraging his constituents to stay safe.
While emergency services issued a warning to “never drive, ride or walk through floodwater – it can be deeper and faster than it looks”.
Deputy Premier Kyam Maher said South Australian Emergency Services responded to 513 incidents from Sunday morning through to midnight, driven predominantly by severe weather and widespread flooding.
There was exceptionally high demand, with nine metropolitan and regional units handling 443 incidents collectively: Tea Tree Gully, Campbelltown, Salisbury, Sturt, Metro South, Enfield, South Coast, Gawler, and Mount Barker.
“Huge thanks to the SES, as well as the CFS and the MFS workers who assisted in keeping our communities safe,” he said.
“Conditions in Greater Adelaide are forecast to stabilise today, though severe weather warnings remain in effect for the Flinders and North East Pastoral districts.”
A spokesperson for SA Power Networks confirmed this morning that there had been no power outages caused directly by the flooding.
However, residents at Hawker in the Flinders Ranges have been without power since yesterday, with SA Power Networks unable to restore power due to flooding making it unsafe to access equipment, the spokesperson said.
Helen Reid from the Bureau of Meteorology said the powerful cold front had brought “winter in all its glory” as it moved across the country.
She said another cold front is expected to move across SA on Tuesday.
While not as strong as the weekend’s system, this front is still expected to bring another burst of cold wind and showers, she said.
