Every conversation has the power to change a life.

That’s the message at the heart of this year’s Lifeline Adelaide Gala Ball, which returns on Friday, August 14 with a powerful new theme: Ripples of Hope.

Now in its third year, the Gala Ball – presented by Uniting Communities at U City Function Centre – has quickly become one of Adelaide’s signature fundraising events, bringing together business leaders, community members and supporters for an evening that celebrates the volunteers behind one of Australia’s most vital crisis support services.

The theme recognises the quiet but profound impact made every day by Lifeline Adelaide’s crisis supporters, whose conversations with people experiencing crises often create a ripple effect that extends far beyond a single phone call.

Last financial year alone, local Crisis Supporters answered nearly 42,000 calls from help seekers across the country, providing thousands of hours of compassionate, non-judgemental support to people facing some of the darkest moments of their lives.

Every call represents someone reaching out for connection, understanding and hope.

Every call is also an opportunity to save a life.

Someone contacts Lifeline every 30 seconds. For many callers, they’re not searching for solutions – they’re searching for someone who will genuinely listen.

The funds raised through the Gala Ball help ensure Lifeline Adelaide can continue training and supporting the next generation of crisis support volunteers, making sure no one has to face their hardest moments alone.

For Heather, one of Lifeline Adelaide’s crisis supporters, the work is only possible because of the generosity of the community.

“I’m privileged to have time to volunteer,” she says. “But I’m also aware it only happens because people give so generously to support Lifeline Adelaide.”

Every donation helps create a cycle of care that benefits the entire community.

“Nobody’s immune to difficult times,” Heather says. “You hope that you won’t need to call Lifeline but it could be a family member, a friend or a work colleague reaching out. It’s circular – the community supports us so we can support the community. That’s what community is about.”

This year’s Gala Ball aims to continue that cycle of support while offering guests an unforgettable evening in one of Adelaide’s most impressive event spaces.

Held at the internationally recognised, fully accessible and certified carbon neutral U City Function Centre, the event combines purpose with celebration.

Guests can expect premium hospitality.

Guests will enjoy a premium two-course dining experience created by acclaimed catering specialists Blanco Horner, paired with South Australian wines from event wine sponsor Hither & Yon.

Entertainment will continue throughout the evening with a seven-piece live band featuring a full brass section, performing everything from timeless classics to contemporary favourites and keeping the dance floor full well into the night.

The event will also feature an exclusive live auction, giving attendees the chance to bid on a curated collection of unique experiences and sought-after items, with every dollar raised helping fund Lifeline Adelaide’s essential services.

One of the evening’s most powerful moments will come through stories shared by local crisis support volunteers, offering guests a rare insight into the life-changing work taking place inside Lifeline Adelaide’s local phone room.

These firsthand accounts highlight the compassion, resilience and dedication required to answer every call, while demonstrating how community support directly translates into lives touched and lives saved.

For Adelaide’s business community, the Gala Ball is also an opportunity to align with a trusted organisation making a tangible difference across South Australia.

Every ticket purchased helps Lifeline Adelaide to support people in crisis.

Businesses can support the event through sponsorship, helping strengthen a service that thousands of Australians rely on while demonstrating a meaningful commitment to community wellbeing.

A range of sponsorship packages is available, with tailored opportunities for organisations looking to make a lasting impact through their support.

Whether attending as a corporate table, entertaining clients or joining friends for an inspiring evening, every ticket purchased contributes to ensuring Lifeline Adelaide can continue answering calls from people in crisis.

Because behind every conversation is a person looking for hope.

And behind every volunteer is a community that makes their work possible.

The Lifeline Adelaide Gala Ball is more than a fundraising event – it’s an opportunity for Adelaide to come together in support of a service that listens when people need it most.
