As the makeup of the state’s upper house looms as a critical outcome in the State Election, a SACOSS, InDaily and Uniting Communities panel event digs deep into who will best champion SA’s most vulnerable.

Balancing Power: A Legislative Council Election Panel will be moderated by InDaily Editor Belinda Willis, with key state election candidates questioned on their priorities and how they will “work towards a more equitable South Australia”.

There are four cross-bench seats up for election in March, so the balance of power in the upper house comes down to the last couple of seats.

Those key candidates in the March state election will be asked who will hold the balance of power, who will get to block, amend or pass the government’s legislation and who champion those experiencing poverty and the community services that support them.

The panel:

  • Hon. Kyam Maher, Labor MLC
  • Hon. Connie Bonaros, SA Best MLC
  • Hon. Tammy Franks, Independent MLC
  • Hon. Michelle Lensink, Liberal MLC
  • Melanie Selwood, Lead Candidate for the Legislative Council, The Greens SA
  • Chris McDermott, Candidate for the Legislative Council, Sarah Game’s Fair Go for Australians Party

The event is being held at The Exchange on Wednesday, February 25 from 9.30am until 11am.
