Former army chief joins Codan

Defence and communication technology company Codan has appointed former chief of army Rick Burr as strategic advisor.

Burr has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the Australian Defence Force, including serving as a commanding officer for the SAS regiment and four years as chief of army.

He was also a deputy commanding general for the US Army Pacific in Hawaii, director general military strategic commitments for Defence Australia and is a current advisory board chair for Defence SA.

In his new role at Codan, Burr will support engagement across Australian and Five Eyes defence initiatives, contributing to major programs and strengthening partnerships in mission-critical environments.

“As defence priorities evolve, there is a clear opportunity to further leverage and scale that capability here in Australia. Rick’s experience will help us align even more closely with those priorities,” Codan CEO and managing director Alf Ianniello said.

Koonenberry managing director steps down

SA-based Koonenberry Gold has announced Dan Power will step down from his position as managing director after more than four years at the helm.

During his tenure, Power led the acquisition of multiple major projects and the emerging gold discovery at Sunnyside Prospect at Enmore Gold Project in NSW.

He will continue to provide technical, operational and managerial support as the company transitions and will step down from his position at the end of August 2026.

Power is an experienced leader in the mining sector, previously holding the position of CEO and chief geologist at Titeline Resources Mongolia, and was country exploration manager in Solomon Islands for Newmont Mining Corporation.

“The Board sincerely thanks Mr Power for his dedication and efforts on behalf of the Company and its shareholders, and wishes him every success in his future endeavours,” Koonenberry said in a statement.

TAFE SA names new education and training director

Karren Raper has been appointed as TAFE SA’s new executive director of education and training.

Raper has spent three decades at TAFE SA, working across several program areas, including foundation skills, primary and allied industries, and health and community services.

She spent more than 20 years as the education manager of TAFE SA’s horticulture, conservation and land management, and viticulture lecturing team.

Outside of her roles at TAFE SA, Raper has also been a member and chair of several national, state and regional boards and committees, including as board chair for Barossa Lower North Futures.

“Karren brings extensive experience and knowledge of the vocational education and training sector to her new role,” TAFE SA said.

PGC Legal appoints general manager

Adelaide-based law firm PGC Legal has appointed Rod Groch as its new general manager.

Groch is a professional services executive with more than 25 years of experience across legal, accounting and consulting environments in both Australia and the Middle East, where he has held several senior leadership roles.

He was previously CEO of Integrated Legal Holdings, chief operating officer at Prosperity Advisers, national operations manager at Water Technology, and general manager of Dubai-based Al Tamimi and Company.

Groch will lead PGC Legal’s operational and financial management, working closely with partners to support the execution of strategy in order to strengthen the firm’s operational framework.

New business development manager joins Sparc Technologies 

Peter Wenzke has been appointed as the new business development manager for renewable energy business Sparc Technologies.

Wenzke has more than 25 years of experience in the coatings industry, joining the company from his previous role as Australia and New Zealand marketing manager for Sherwin-Williams.

In the new role, Wenzke will work alongside asset owners, engineering firms, contractors, and applicators as Sparc Technologies looks to build market awareness for its ecosparc enhanced protective coating product.

Wenzke has a materials engineering background and has previously spent more than nine years as marketing manager for Wattyl Industrial Coatings.

“This is another important step forward for Sparc’s graphene business and I am confident that Peter will be a great addition to our highly experienced graphene team,” Sparc managing director Nick O’Loughlin said.

Renew Adelaide welcomes new board chair

Gino Luglietti has been named as Renew Adelaide’s board chair, succeeding Nicholas Begakis after more than 10 years in the role.

Luglietti is an executive leader with more than two decades of experience across government, communications, industry and not-for-profit sectors.

He is the current corporate affairs manager at Epic Energy and was the former national director of government relations at the Property Council of Australia, where he engaged with senior federal ministers.

Luglietti was formerly the director of communications, marketing and engagement for the NT Government, campaign and engagement advisor for New Zealand’s Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

“Gino has the skills, the networks and the drive to take Renew Adelaide into an exciting new chapter,” Renew CEO Gianna Murphy said.

Head of marketing appointed to telecommunications company

Adelaide-based telecommunications business Wireless Communications has appointed Krystle Newton as its new head of marketing.

Newton has extensive experience in the advertising and marketing sectors, with a background in visual communication, brand building and executive leadership.

She has held several senior marketing management roles, including at Viva Energy Australia’s OTR Group, where she managed a team responsible for building brand integrity.

Newton has been responsible for leading brand and design execution across multiple major brands, including OTR Convenience, Reddy Express, and Krispy Kreme SA.

“As we continue to evolve our organisation, Krystle’s depth of experience, together with her strategic mindset, is already playing an important role in strengthening our brand and supporting our continued focus on our valued clients,” Wireless director Dwayne Bonner said.
