‘Run out of room’: BDO moves into significant CBD tower

More private meeting rooms for clients and an on-site barista are just two of the perks for BDO as it moves into a recently refurbished tower in the city that was once Adelaide’s tallest.

Accounting and advisory firm BDO has relocated to new digs in the CBD, and has tripled its number of meeting rooms to better support its growing client base.

Previously headquartered in the Southern end of the CBD on King William Street, BDO’s Adelaide office is now at 30 Pirie Street – once the Telstra headquarters and newly refurbished by development firm Quintessential.

The move follows substantial growth of BDO’s team, which rose from 90 staff when the company moved into its King William Street office in 2011 to 260 now.

BDO Adelaide managing partner Rudy Pieck said the team had “well and truly run out of room”.

“Personal relationships are important to us at BDO. We’ve now got triple the number of meeting rooms fitted out with the latest tech, there’s going to be a much better opportunity to productively work together and meet with our clients,” he said.

“Of course, there are better amenities for our staff – that’s important these days. They’re looking forward to being in the action more, and they’re definitely looking forward to the on-site barista that we’re going to have.”

The building BDO is moving into was originally completed in 1987, and was briefly Adelaide’s tallest.o

For years, it housed Telecom Australia – eventually Telstra – before it was acquired by Quintessential, which undertook a substantial $30 million refurbishment of the property to bring it up to modern standards.

The building – which BDO has now secured signage and naming rights for – was officially opened for leasing on 13 March 2025. The renovation included a new façade entry and forecourt, a statement lobby, fresh ground-floor amenities, and a new auditorium for presentations, workshops, and staff training sessions.

“For us, it gives us the opportunity to support our ongoing growth locally and be a bit closer to the CBD action in this fantastic location,” Pieck said.

The managing partner said BDO had been enjoying a steady rate of growth in Adelaide, backed by activity in infrastructure and property development.

The new space has 330 lockers for staff: “so we’ve got a bit of excess capacity”.

“I can imagine we would be set for the next five years or so,” Pieck said.

“We do have expansion rights in the building, so if the right opportunity came along or our organic growth meant we started to run out of space, we’ve got options there.

“And the other unique thing with this property is that on the mezzanine level there is a co-working space, so if we need to we can always use that as an option.”

The move will support the further growth of the business, Pieck said, including elevating key talent within the Adelaide office.

“In 2026 we’re looking to promote a number of people to partner and other senior roles to continue to support that growth,” Pieck said.

“We’re looking to build out some parts of our practice, such as the projects and infrastructure advisory team, as well as the more traditional parts of our practice like tax and audit.

“We’re genuinely excited. There’s this sense that this environment that we have created is a wonderful one to be in. There’s a sense of calm. It really supports empowering our people to provide great service.”
