Art Gallery welcomes assistant director

The Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) has announced the appointment of Tansy Curtin as its new assistant director of artistic and collection programs.

Curtin would now oversee AGSA’s artistic program and manage the gallery’s exhibition and collections strategies.

Curtin has worked for more than two decades in the public gallery sector and has held senior positions as curator of international art pre-1980 at AGSA and was curatorial manager of the Bendigo Art Gallery.

Some of the major exhibitions she has curated include 2023’s Frida and Diego: Love & Revolution and 2024’s Reimagining the Renaissance for AGSA.

“Tansy’s extensive leadership and artistic programming experience will ensure all AGSA artistic and collection-based programs are delivered to the standards of excellence and imagination expected of AGSA,” AGSA director Jason Smith said.

Accounting firm appoints new director

Accounting and consulting firm HLB Mann Judd has announced the appointment of Troy Smith as its new director.

Smith would lead the SA firm’s Research and Development (R&D) Tax Incentive division and assist clients across the business advisory services division.

He started his career at HLB Mann Judd’s in 2019 as an accountant for business advisory services and has since progressed his way up through the firm.

Smith is also volunteers as an industry expert at University of South Australia’s Innovation and Collaboration Centre where he supports startups with the R&D Tax Incentive and other tax strategies to grow business operations.

SA members join Australian wine board

The Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology has announced the appointment of a new SA board member and a presidential swap at its Annual General Meeting.

Colin Hinze

Colin Hinze was announced as treasurer on the 2025/26 ASVO board of directors.

Hinze has more than 30 years’ experience in vineyard management, technical innovation and industry advisory roles and is the current viticulture manager at Sidewood Estate.

He has formerly worked as viticulturist at Bird in Hand Winery and was viticulturist and vineyard manager at Taylors Wines for more than 12 years.

Samantha Scarratt

Samantha Scarratt was named as president after she swapped her vice president role with Andy Clarke, where she would now work with the board to set the strategy for the ASVO.

Scarratt is the current CEO of Vinehealth Australia and had formerly worked as a senior consultant for the Wine Network Consulting Pty Ltd.

Government policy expert joins Legal Services Commission

The Legal Services Commission has appointed Beth Midgley as its new director of legal information and advice

Midgley has more than two decades of experience in legal policy and broader policy roles across the private sector, community sector and in government roles.

She provided strategic legal policy advice in her previous role as director in the federal courts branch of the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department.

Prior to that, Midgley was director of policy at the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and has held several positions in the SA Attorney-General’s Department.

“Beth’s strategic leadership and collaborative approach will be a valuable asset as we continue to grow and evolve our services for the South Australian community,” Legal Services CEO Annmarie Lumsden said.

ACH Group welcomes a deputy chair to its board

Not-for-profit aged care service provider ACH Group has appointed Tracey Scott as deputy chair of its board after she first joined in 2024.

Scott has extensive leadership and clinical governance expertise where she served as chair of ACH Group’s Clinical and Customer Care Committees where she strengthened and promoted person-centred care.

She has worked in several roles at the SA Department of Treasury and Finance as executive director of financial management reporting and policy and a statutory position as lotteries commissioner of SA.

“Tracey brings valuable expertise and deep commitment to quality outcomes for older Australians. Her appointment as Deputy Chair reflects the Board’s confidence in her strategic insight and contribution to the sector,” ACH Group Chair Imelda Lynch said.

Former SA Premier announced as next high commissioner to the UK

Former SA Premier Jay Weatherill is set to become Australia’s next high commissioner to the UK where he would lead the Australian High Commission in London and raise awareness of contemporary Australia in the UK.

Weatherill served in the SA parliament for 16 years where he spent more than six years as the leader of the state.

In parliament, Weatherill held a range of portfolios that included Environment and Conservation, Housing, Disability and Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation.

More recently, he has been an industry professor at the University of South Australia and been a council member on the National Gallery of Australia.

“Jay is well placed to take forward AUKUS in our nation’s interest, particularly with SSN-AUKUS, which we’ll be doing in partnership with the United Kingdom,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.
