Andres Donoso is the head of commercial & finance at D&S Resources – the winner of BDO’s 2025 Fast Movers program. Business Insight spoke to him about the company’s rapid growth and how being family-owned and operated is “foundational”.
Winning the top award at Fast Movers was incredibly humbling, and if I’m honest, quite unexpected. We’ve just been focused on doing the work, supporting our team, and delivering for our clients, so to receive that level of recognition was a really proud moment for all of us. It’s a reflection of the hard work and dedication from everyone across the business, and we’re genuinely grateful to be acknowledged among so many great South Australian companies.
D&S Resources’ growth has been driven by a clear focus on reliability, technical capability, and long-term client relationships. Our expansion into larger-scale SMP (Structural, Mechanical, Piping) infrastructure projects, coupled with investments in automation, compliance, and project delivery systems, has allowed us to scale confidently. We’ve also diversified our client base across mining, water, energy, and defence, which has created resilience and consistent demand.
Absolutely. Our ability to deliver turnkey SMP and modular infrastructure solutions for remote and high-risk environments has positioned us as a go-to mid-tier partner for Tier 1 clients. By focusing on complex, hands-on work that requires both engineering depth and execution agility, we’ve carved out a niche that values precision, safety, and adaptability.
It’s foundational. Being a family-owned and run business has shaped a culture grounded in trust, accountability, and long-term thinking. Our decisions aren’t just about short-term gains—they’re made with our people, reputation, and future in mind. It creates a work environment where consistency, respect, and follow-through really matter, and where every team member understands the importance of delivering to a high standard
Right now, the biggest demand is in SMP project delivery – particularly modular plant, poly welding, and pipeline packages for the mining and renewables sectors. There’s also increasing demand for integrated fabrication and installation, where clients want a single contractor who can design, build, and commission infrastructure efficiently.
Clarity and communication. With so many moving parts, it’s essential to maintain clear expectations, structured reporting, and real-time issue tracking. We place strong emphasis on aligning teams early, staying responsive to change, and delivering under pressure without compromising safety or quality.
We see D&S becoming one of Australia’s leading SMP and modular infrastructure providers, not just for mining and construction, but also for defence and international markets. Our focus is on building sovereign capability, investing in compliance, automation, and export readiness. Long-term, we aim to be a strategic partner on major national projects and a trusted name in the delivery of smart, scalable infrastructure solutions. More importantly, invest in our people and provide a safe and secure working environment for them to develop their skills and capacity to excel as professionals.
