Papyrus Australia shares rose by 50 per cent on the news that it had made “significant advancements” in using its banana fibre technology to make an expanded range of paper and cardboard products.

The company claimed that its plastic replacement products are particularly promising, even if they get wet.

“The versatility of our process now spans from moulded products and into paper and board both as sheets and as jumbo rolls,” Papyrus said.

“The technology, now successfully proven at laboratory scale, is opening new doors to exciting applications in packaging and other industries looking for a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics or timber-based paper and boards.

“Notably, our banana fibre boards have demonstrated very promising wet strength retention properties, paving the way for a range of potentially unique applications.”

The company ranked among a strong week of Winners, with gainers outnumbering Losers 28 to 25 over the five days.

Ultimately, the ASX 200 was flat overall amid continued global economic uncertainty caused by US President Donald Trump’s tariffs and ahead of proposed trade talks between the North American nation and China.

Though not in the top five, Chyrosis Corporation rose by 18 per cent on Friday after announcing a new Master Services Agreement with Newmont Mining Corporation (NEM) for its PhotonAssay gold sample analysis machines.

The deal was just for one machine to be deployed in Ghana, but investors were clearly encouraged by the prospect for future deals with NEM.

Baker Young analysts said the company needed the deal as contracting and rollout of its machines has slowed recently despite the incredible surge in the price of gold, as well as its sluggish share price over recent months.
