Police investigated for accessing private information: ICAC
South Australian police officers have been investigated for accessing SAPOL information on their partners or neighbours.
Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Bruce Lander told a parliamentary committee this morning that many of the matters investigated under the banner of “improper use or disclosure of information” related to police officers.
“There are instances where police officers … access private information for personal purposes,” Lander said, although he would not disclose the number of cases investigated.

Officers, he said, had accessed information on “someone they want to know more about”, including their partner or neighbours.
Lander said some police officers required more education about appropriate use and access to private information.
According to the annual report of the ICAC and the Office of Public integrity, 11 per cent of cases investigated involved improper use or disclosure of information.
