A festival-favourite burger joint has returned to the city, about six months after shutting up shop on Hindley Street.

After shutting its ‘clubstaurant’ 99 Gang on Hindley Street in November, burger brand Gang Gang has found a new home in the city’s south.

Co-founders Nina and Morgen Wynn-Hadinata are no strangers to the idea that when one yellow door closes, another green door opens; saying that despite last year’s closure, it was their best year yet for the business.

They sold about 100,000 burgers in 2025, Nina says, and their new city diner-style spot in Holland Street’s Market Shed emphasises a new, more mature version of the brand.

“We had a hard run, and it wasn’t always easy and we came out of it; last year was a testament to that. It felt good that we’re on the right track,” Nina says.

Now, the business employs about 25 staff across the two stores, plus runs three food trucks, working its way through 10,000 slices of cheese and 100kg of cucumbers for its pickles each month.

The business closed its Parkside store in June 2024 after struggling with a large rent spike. The co-owners and married couple then opened a takeaway shop at Eden Hills in November that year, one still successfully operating, alongside the thriving food trucks that continue to roll up at almost every South Australian festival.

The duo teased a few interstate road trips could also be on the cards in the future.

Gang Gang has two standard food trucks, one shipping container-style food truck – the meals on wheels can be spotted every Fringe Festival in Gluttony, or at Gilles at the Grounds, October’s Lucky Dumpling Market, LIV Golf and other hot spots around town.

Plus there’s a new truck on the way which will reimagine the brand’s Thirsty Tiger feel, which was part of the old Hindley Street spot, serving tacos and margaritas for events.

You can’t miss it.

The duo say they are excited to leave Hindley Street behind and move into the Market Shed, which regularly hosts fashion markets XChange, Second Life and the Adelaide Wine Markets.

They say some of their older Parkside customers would avoid wandering down Hindley Street – avoiding the nightlife stigma of the street that is also facing high vacancy rates – but the Market Shed spot has “a better energy”.

“A lot of our regulars from Parkside that have been hanging out for us to open somewhere local again, they’re stoked because obviously it’s just across the park land, it just centralises us, it keeps us relevant in the city,” Morgan says.

“Being so close to Gilbert Street, there is so much cool stuff popping up with like-minded business owners as well, it’s not corporate crazily down this end, it’s got really cool businesses like Prohibition Gin [that now hosts private events], Gilbert Street Hotel and Housewarmers.”

Plus, Nina adds, it’s easier for Uber Drivers to get in and out, compared to Hindley Street where they’d take “an hour” to find a park.

Each month, Gang Gang uses about 10,000 slices of cheese.

Nina has been in Adelaide for about ten years since she moved here to be with her wife, Morgen. She’s lived among the thriving food truck scene in Los Angeles, and before Gang Gang, spent 12 years creating events and booking talent in Indonesia.

She promises to bring some of the Cali flair to the Market Shed menu, like breakfast burritos for a Sunday recovery session.

But their main focus with the new spot is to provide more affordable options for their customers looking to host mid-size events, build their own burger or if they’re just sick of paying extra for almond milk.

“We get emails every week saying, ‘can you come out for 25 people or 40 people?’ but for a food truck, that’s just not feasible,” Nina says.

“This space gives us the opportunity for you to still have the Gang experience, but you don’t need to rent a food truck and have all those extra added expenses.

“The menu is more affordable, we’re doing free alternative milk [not charging extra], all those little things that help and add up at the end of the day.

“It’s still the same quality Gang burger whether it’s a simple burger or gourmet, it just allows options for people to be able to eat out and feel like they’re having that meal away.”

Gang Gang at the Market Shed on Holland will be open six days a week, and is soft opening this Saturday, August 1.
