A medieval market, tavern full of mead, a delicious spit roast and a wooden longship will highlight the South Australian Museum’s VikingFest.

Free to attend, the fair will be held over two days on the front and back lawns of the Museum, 28-29 June, celebrating the blockbuster Treasures of the Viking Age: the Galloway Hoard exhibition.

Market stalls will sell medieval fares: costumes, textiles, woodwork, leathercraft, longbows, forged items, jewellery, replica weaponry, and locally-brewed mead.

The Museum Café and Gift Shop will also be open.

Visitors can enjoy medieval combat exhibitions, re-enactments, axe throwing, and other medieval-themed music and entertainment.

There will also be a medieval costume and Viking beard competitions each day.

Inside the Museum, visitors can visit the Treasures of the Viking Age: the Galloway Hoard exhibition, search for buried objects in our dig pits, pick up the LEGO trail and listen to talks by South Australian archaeologists and historians.

Tickets to the exhibition, which runs until 27 July, are $25. Concessions are available. Pre-purchase tickets online to avoid disappointment.

VikingFest is proudly supported by major sponsor the City of Adelaide and the Adelaide Economic Development Agency.
