Local fashion label VAN BRUSSEL has moved into new digs in the city’s top shopping strip.

South Australian fashion label VAN BRUSSEL last week opened a new permanent store in Gay’s Arcade after an experiment in the Adelaide Arcade proved fruitful.

Speaking to CityMag at the store’s launch party, owner Rachel Van Brussel said she had been on a “wild journey” since last year launching the brand in the East End’s Ebenezer Place.

Her label – which recently won the Melbourne Fashion Festival’s National Designer Awards for Sustainability – is designed in-house and manufactured entirely in South Australia.

Van Brussel said the launch of the new home followed “momentum and growth of the brand”.

A recent pop-up shop in Adelaide Arcade was “amazing” in terms of getting new eyes on the label, she said.

“That was a test drive to see how the brand performed in this area and it did do really well,” she said.

“So I decided to sign the lease here in Gay’s Arcade. It’s really special to be in this little precinct.”

VAN BRUSSEL recently launched its third collection, which Rachel said was a “true homage to local manufacturing here in South Australia”.

“[Manufacturing in SA] is definitely difficult, definitely challenging,” she said.

“We don’t have as many local manufacturers here as we once did, but I am very fortunate to have tapped into a really amazing bunch of producers.

“I have six producers and they all major in different realms of production, whether it is drapery or knitwear or tailoring.”

VAN BRUSSEL is now open at 3G Gay’s Arcade, Adelaide.
