Take a look through the aquarium-style pool windows of this Henley Beach South home on the market this week, offering ocean views and a short walk to Henley Square.

Proximity to the beach was the number one priority for Shaya Lewis-Dermody and her husband Shane Dermody when they eyed a move to Henley Beach South.
Shaya says her “curiosity” was what drew her to the Seaview Road home about two years ago, and although she only caught the last 10 minutes of the open inspection, it was all she needed to see.
“The pool was very intriguing, and just the general design of the house looked really beautiful,” says Shaya, who is a lawyer and author.
“When I walked in, the ceilings felt really high and it just had a really nice, homely feel to it, while being modern.”

Built by the previous owner, a builder, in 2019, the modern home needed no work done.
“Everything was perfect,” Shaya says.
The only thing the couple added to the home was an automatic awning to the courtyard and a dog door.
Shaya and Shane move around often because of Shane’s job as Chief Commercial Officer at Adbri.
Having lived in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney, Shaya says location, particularly proximity to the beach, is her number one priority.
“Location, to me, is usually more important than the house itself,” Shaya says.
“Henley Square is only a five-minute walk away, so I’m down with the dogs … down on the beach and down to the Square every day.
“Just being nearby the restaurants and the hairdresser and the coffee – it really, for me, is the lifestyle, you can’t beat it.”

With underwater views of the interior of the house, the swimming pool makes the property particularly unique.
Shaya says the pool is what visitors are often taken aback by.
“The pool is very unique in that you can see it from a number of different rooms,” Shaya says.
"If someone’s swimming you can see them from the living room."
The w0w-factor pool adds to the relaxed lifestyle that Shaya loves.
“The other day we were just sitting up on the balcony and you could look out and see dolphins,” Shaya says.
“It’s just a very relaxing place to live.
“I can’t go past the pool because it’s so cool. Just to be around the water, even if it’s not hot enough to swim, it’s very relaxing.”

The home offers automatic blinds and integrated lighting and security. The outdoor shelter automatically closes when it rains.
Shaya says this, and the low-maintenance garden, makes the property “a very easy place to live”.
“The high-tech finishes make it a very liveable house,” Shaya says.
Shaya and Shane are now gearing up for a “desert change” with a move to the Middle East, for Shane’s job, set for early 2026.
The lifestyle and the beach are what Shaya is going to miss the most, but a pool at their next address will have to suffice.
The sale of 236 Seaview Road, Henley Beach South, is being handled by Rhys Digance and Jack Rowe of Belle Property.
