Thirteen years ago, when Alex first set eyes on 46 Westall Street, Unley Park, she was drawn to its prime location and beautiful character features.

The turn-of-the-century bluestone villa is close to cafes, restaurants and boutiques on King William Road and Unley Road, and is just a short walk from Heywood Park.

The central location also provides easy access to the city, the beach and the Adelaide Hills.

“We noticed that it was just such a fantastic location,” Alex tells SALIFE.

The character features of the historic home also stood out,” she says.

“It’s a nice older property at the front. It had some sort of development at the back, but we saw that the location and the size of it meant it had great potential as a family home.”

Set on a block of 587 square metres, the dwelling includes four bedrooms, three bathrooms and parking space for up to two cars.

Alex enlisted Alex Pritchard of Galvin Group Adelaide to design the renovations, which made use of the dwelling’s existing footprint, while Scott Salisbury Homes completed the build.

“We basically provided a wish list to him and he brought most of those wishes to the plan and also suggested some really good ideas to help us achieve what we wanted to do,” says Alex.

Among the priorities of the extensive renovations, completed in 2018-19, was to create a spacious master suite and walk-in wardrobe upstairs, as well as to add an alfresco entertaining pavilion.

The main master suite features a private living area, a walk-in dressing room and a spacious ensuite with dual basins and heated towel rails.

A secondary master bedroom, which looks out onto the front garden, also includes an ensuite with heated towel rails.

The open-plan living, dining and kitchen area features large windows with stunning views of the pool and backyard.

Alex says this is her favourite part of the property.

“I like in the summer that you open the doors at the back and you just walk in and out to the alfresco area and the pool,” she says.

“In winter, I quite like sitting indoors in front of the fire looking out at the pool – it’s warm and cosy.”

The alfresco entertaining pavilion overlooks the pool and features a kitchenette with a built-in barbecue and a fridge.

Nearby the tiled pool is a timber-clad pool house, built to make the area more user-friendly.

After more than a decade of calling the bluestone villa home, Alex is now looking to pass on the keys to a new family, but says she will miss the abode and its location.

“I just love the house,” she says.

The sale of 46 Westall Street, Unley Park, is being handled by Jamie Brown of Booth Real Estate.
