Bigger than an average home with 324 square metres of living space and views of Adelaide’s leafy eastern parklands, this opulent East Terrace apartment is on the market with a $6 million-plus price tag.
The apartment’s owner Donald Brown, 92, purchased the property off-the-plan 14 years ago.
Now, Donald – formerly a company director – has made the tough decision to move into a retirement village, meaning that 1/225 East Terrace, Adelaide, is on the market.
Donald tells SALIFE that he has enjoyed the ease of apartment living, the convenient location and the views.
“Even though the property is an apartment, it’s as big as a normal house,” says Donald.
“You have the convenience of being able to go away and lock up and leave it without the stress of gardening and big grounds to look after.”
The prime location of the apartment is also a major drawcard.
“It’s a short walk to Hutt Street’s shopping precinct, and you can stroll over to the park across the street,” says Donald.
Named Wilpena, and spread across a total of 557 square metres, the apartment includes four bedrooms, three bathrooms, outdoor terraces and off-street parking for up to three cars.
Donald says two of the bedrooms have spectacular views overlooking the nearby parklands.
The master bedroom has a large wardrobe and a spacious ensuite with dual basins, underfloor heating and heated towel rails.
A second master suite includes a walk-in wardrobe, an ensuite and a private terrace.
The property is comprised of a mix of formal and informal living spaces, with a commodious lounge room, a formal dining area and a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area.
The kitchen boasts top-of-the-range Miele appliances and Corian benchtops.
Extensive upgrades to the property over the years have included reflooring and repainting throughout, as well as a new air conditioning system.
Donald struggles to single out his favourite feature of the apartment, but loves spending time in the open-plan kitchen, dining and living area.
“It’s a huge setting, so I spend most of the time there,” says Donald.
He also enjoys the 108-square-metre outdoor living and dining area, which features a kitchenette with a built-in Weber barbecue, a wall-mounted TV, overhead heating and a variety of plantings.
The home has two additional balconies with unique views. However, it’s the serenity of the location that Donald will miss the most.
“It’s just a complete package. I’ve lived in various areas, but this, to me, is just a perfect position,” says Donald.
“It’s a very nice place to live, and very quiet.
“Having looked at it just recently, I feel like moving back in.”
The sale of 1/225 East Terrace, Adelaide, is being handled by Jamie Brown of Booth Real Estate.
