New president for top SA legal body
A senior SA public servant has been appointed the new President of the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Senior public servant and legal professional Steph Halliday has been named the new President of the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT), an independent body that helps South Australians resolve legal issues without going to court.
Halliday has almost three decades of experience across SA’s public sector and legal sectors. She currently leads a team at the Office of the Director of the Public Prosecutions (ODPP), dealing with high-risk domestic violence matters involving intimate partner violence.
She previously held senior positions with the Attorney-General’s Department (AGD), including Executive Director of Legal and Legislative Services and Special Counsel to the Chief Executive within AGD, and gained experience at the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and the Crown’s Solicitors Office.
Halliday will replace Justice Judy Hughes after she resigned, finishing up her work at the end of October, to focus full-time on her work as a Justice of the Supreme Court. She will be the third president of SACAT since its creation in 2015.

Halliday will begin her new role as a District Court judge on October 6, before commencing the presidency of SACAT on November 2.
“I also thank outgoing President Justice Judy Hughes, who has done a tremendous job leading the SACAT since her appointment in July 2017 and will continue as a Justice of the Supreme Court,” said Maher.
