SA Qantas staff on strike
Qantas ground workers have conducted a walkout at Adelaide Airport today, as about 700 workers across Australia strike for better pay.
Qantas ground workers in Adelaide are on strike today, demanding better pay and working conditions as part of a national day of action.
The strike at Adelaide Airport, which began at 7:30 this morning, will last 24 hours and includes union workers from Qantas subsidiaries Qantas Ground Services, Australian airExpress, and QantasLink.
A spokesperson for Adelaide Airport said the strikes would not have an impact on passengers.
“Adelaide Airport doesn’t anticipate that today’s industrial action relating to QantasLink and Qantas Freight will impact our operations,” the spokesperson said.

The workers are demanding better pay, job security, and safety conditions, calling for more secure full-time jobs and an end to the fragmentation of critical aviation work across multiple subsidiaries.
The Transport Workers Union said the action was the result of “years of wage suppression, outsourcing and declining standards across Australian aviation, including the tragic death of a Qantas Freight worker last year”.
The demands follow the death of a Qantas freight worker on September 7 last year at the Sydney International Freight Terminal, where the man in his 40s suffered fatal head and chest injuries after being struck by a towing vehicle.
At Sydney Airport, an additional 400 airport security screeners will participate in two-hour rolling stoppages over similar issues of rock-bottom pay, job insecurity, and cost-cutting to critical passenger safety services.
