An alliterative vision has been unveiled to sell the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The catchphrase – “Believe. Belong. Become. Brisbane 2032” – was revealed as the official “Games Vision” for the host city after a community consultation process engaging more than 6000 people.

The vision, which Brisbane 2032 boss Andrew Liveris insists differs from a slogan, paints an optimistic and inclusive portrait of a city that Games organisers say is poised to meet its international potential.

“It’s not a hallucination, it’s not something made up. It’s a future state that matters to our communities,” Mr Liveris said.

The organising committee – as well as local, Queensland and federal governments alike – have a mammoth task ahead in building the necessary infrastructure while getting the Brisbane public on side.

In common with former host cities, the Brisbane 2032 Games are already facing controversy and resistance in some quarters over the location of venues, Indigenous rights and construction-related disruption.

Brisbane 2032 boss Andrew Liveris said the vision was highly symbolic, “with the genesis of each word acting as our north star towards the delivery of our Games in 2032 and an exciting era beyond”.

“When our time arrives on the world stage, our local belief, grit and spirit will shine through, our sense of belonging will be celebrated and shared. And we will rise to become an even greater city, state and nation,” he said.

Mr Liveris said the consultation process to come up with the vision was not paid for by taxpayers.

“The OCOG [Olympic Games Organising Committee] is completely privately funded,” he said.

“We’re privately raising money to put on the Games, and we’re no cost to the taxpayer.”

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the Games would “capture the spirit of a city that believes in itself and welcomes the world”.

“We are determined to seize this opportunity and deliver a Games that leaves a lasting legacy for our city,” he said.

Australian Olympic Committee president Ian Chesterman also drew on the five words.

“Every athlete must believe they are ready to take on the best in the world,” he said.

“When they make the Australian Olympic Team, they truly belong to something revered. And each will also become an Olympian for the rest of their lives.”
