There are 19 candidates running for four positions on the Adelaide City Council as part of a supplementary election to fill Central Ward vacancies. See the full list.
Businessowners, cultural campaigners, former councillors and a barrister have thrown their hats in the ring to contest for four vacancies on the Adelaide City Council.
In April, District Court Judge Michael Burnett declared the Central Ward portion of the 2022 Adelaide City Council elections void in the case of former councillor Alexander Hyde v Electoral Commissioner, Jing Li.
As such, councillors David Elliot, Simon Hou, Carmel Noon and Jing Li were removed from the Council.
A supplementary election was then announced to fill those gaps. Nominations for candidacy closed yesterday at noon, and a draw for positions on the ballot paper was held yesterday.
At that event, it was revealed 19 individuals will run campaigns for a seat on the Adelaide City Council.
The supplementary election will be held via a postal vote, with close of voting to take place at midday on Monday, August 25.
InDaily previously revealed that Music Culture Adelaide campaigner Patrick Maher, union worker Declan Price-Brooks and TIBA espresso owner Ben Ayris would be running in the Central Ward supplementary election.
They’re joined by David Elliot and Carmel Noon, who were both removed from the Council after the District Court’s decision earlier this year. Council veteran Anne Moran is also having another crack at a stint in Town Hall.
