Labor has revealed a suite of candidates ahead of the March 2026 state election, including an intensive care nurse, a school teacher and a commercial litigation lawyer.
Intensive care nurse and educator Marisa Bell will be Labor’s candidate for the Adelaide Hills seat of Heysen.
Bell has more than 40 years of experience in healthcare and is currently a councillor at the City of Onkaparinga.
Since 2018, Heysen has been held by the Liberal Party’s Josh Teague, who won the seat by a margin of around 1000 votes at the 2022 state election.
Heysen covers residential areas of the Adelaide Hills as well as orchard and farming land, taking in towns such as Aldgate, Bridgewater, Crafers, Hahndorf, Meadows and Stirling.
Lawyer Alice Rolls is Labor’s candidate for the seat of Unley, which is currently held by David Pisoni for the Liberal Party by around 1000 votes.
Rolls spent more than two decades as a commercial litigator in the private sector and currently leads the Civil Law Division at the Legal Services Commission of South Australia.
Rolls is also a board member of State Theatre Company South Australia and of the Accessible Justice Project.
The seat of Unley covers suburbs such as Fullarton, Goodwood, Malvern, Unley and Wayville.
Lawyer and advisor Aria Bolkus was named as Labor’s candidate for the western suburbs seat of Colton, which is currently held by former Paralympic swimmer Matt Cowdrey for the Liberal Party by a margin of around 2,500 votes.
Bolkus is currently an advisor in the office of Federal Health Minister Mark Butler and previously held roles at HWL Ebsworth Lawyers and Andersons Solicitors.
The electoral district of Colton covers the west of metropolitan Adelaide, spanning Gulf St Vincent and taking in suburbs like Adelaide Airport, Henley Beach and West Beach.
Teacher Toby Priest will be Labor’s candidate for the neighbouring seat of Morphett, which was won by the Liberal’s Stephen Patterson at the 2022 state election by approximately 2000 votes.
Priest is a teacher at St Thomas School and a boarding supervisor at Immanuel College.
The seat of Morphett spans the area to the south-west of Adelaide, including the seaside suburbs of Glenelg and Morphettville Racecourse.
Political strategist James Agness will contest the seat of Light for Labor, which is currently held by Labor’s Tony Piccolo with a margin of 9000 votes.
Agness is currently the chief of staff for Planning Minister Nick Champion and was previously the chief of staff for Trade and Investment Minister Joe Szakacs.
He has also been a state politics ministerial adviser for road safety, correctional services, police and health, as well as an advisor to Peter Malinauskas when he was leader of the opposition.
Current Light member Piccolo will vacate the seat for Agness and will run in the neighbouring seat of Ngadjuri (formerly Frome).
The seat of Light includes both residential and semi-rural areas to the north of Greater Metropolitan Adelaide, including Munno Para and Gawler.
“As a Government, we have a strong and united team with an unwavering focus on delivering long-term, sustained improvement to the lives of South Australians,” said Premier Peter Malinauskas.
“We are fortunate to have such a talented and committed group of candidates who have sought to put their names forward to join our team.”
