A South Australian gas company has “multiple” suitors interested in its business and assets, signalling more consolidation of the sector could be on the cards.

Adelaide-based gas exploration and development company Elixir Energy is fielding “multiple” suitors interested in its business and assets – but the flurry of activity failed to boost its shares.
In a letter to the Australian Stock Exchange and sent to shareholders, the gas business, which is working on an exploration project in Queensland, said it was “progressing discussions with various parties”.
This includes gas giant Beach Energy, after it entered into an exclusivity agreement with Elixir in October to “explore a strategic portfolio farmout”.
“As part of that announcement Elixir confirmed that it was continuing discussions with Beach despite exclusivity having ended,” said the company that is worth $109 million.
But Elixir also revealed it had “received interest in the company and its assets during the period of exclusivity from multiple parties and it would formally commence engagement with those parties in parallel to continuing discussions with Beach”.
“The company is progressing discussions with various parties at this time,” the business said in its October 7 letter.
Despite the news, Elixir was the biggest Loser of the week after its shares fell 28.21 per cent.
Other Losers included 1414 Degrees and iTech Minerals. Many of the Losers this week were in the tech sector, as fallout from the failed Firmus float spread across the ASX.
Australian Vintage was one of the biggest Winners last week, having recently announced the divestment of a South Australian cellar door.
And Maggie Beer Holdings returned to the Winners list too, seeing its shares rise by 8.93 per cent despite no major announcements.
