SA defence tech pens Polish partnership
A new partnership signed at one of Europe’s largest military conferences is expected to create more SA jobs.
South Australian defence technology company RFTEQ has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Poland-based communications business XY-Sensing at a major conference.
The pair penned the MoU at MSPO, one of Europe’s largest military defence exhibitions, and will see them combine their expertise to develop new security and electronic warfare technology.
Based at Torrensville, RFTEQ provides technologies for defence clients in the electronic warfare space.
XY-Sensing meanwhile develops radar systems, imaging radar systems and electronic warfare systems out of Warsaw, Poland.
The pair are hoping to accelerate development of new tech capable of addressing complex security and operational challenges, including next-generation sensing and monitoring solutions for drones and unmanned systems.
The MoU was expected to mean RFTEQ would hire 30 more staff over the next year by scaling its specialist engineering, production, integration and support teams to meet growing demand for its products made in SA.
In the four years to follow, an additional 150 jobs at RFTEQ were expected to be created as the business eyes export opportunities in Europe.
RFTEQ CEO David Kinnard said the MoU marked an “important step” for the company.
“The partnership… also supports Australia’s defence industry, creates opportunities for local suppliers and skilled jobs, and reinforces South Australia’s position as a hub for defence innovation and advanced manufacturing,” he said.

Defence and Space Industries Minister Chris Picton said the partnership would add to the state’s growing defence industry.
“This partnership combines the expertise from Australia and Poland to develop smarter technology for defence forces,” Picton said.
“It’s recognition of the high-calibre work happening in South Australia’s defence industry and in particular our research and development sector.
“SA’s growing defence industry generated a record $2 billion in economic activity last financial year and its partnerships like this that continue to create new opportunities for highly skilled local jobs.”
