Winners and Losers: Middle East conflict hammers stocks but one SA company bucks the trend
Spiking oil prices triggered by war in the Middle East took a hammer to stock markets at home and abroad. But one SA company has still managed to almost quintuple its value over the past year.
It was a tough week for the local stock market in Australia, with the top 200 companies falling by 2.6 per cent over the period and 6.3 per cent for the month.
The drop came alongside conflict in Iran impacting global oil trade, the cost of oil rising above US$100. Diesel prices in SA are now at record highs, according to the RAA.
And inflationary impacts are yet to be truly felt in global economies, but an indication of where things are heading will arrive tomorrow when the Reserve Bank makes a call on interest rates.
Meanwhile, there were some Winners in South Australia, with three companies seeing their stock prices rise above 20 per cent.
The top Winner for the week was Resolution Minerals, which rose by 29.27 per cent over the five trading days despite no major announcements.
The company, involved in critical mineral mining in the US, is up a whopping 381.82 per cent over the past year – nearly a quintupling of its value, which now sits at $120 million.
Vintage Energy rose by 25 per cent and Otto Energy – an oil and gas exploration company – rose by 20 per cent.
H3 Energy was the week’s biggest loser, falling 22.22 per cent in the week.
This is despite the company announcing it had appointed deal broker LAB Energy Advisors to help it find co-investors and drilling partners for one of the state’s most significant untapped oil and gas discoveries.

H3’s Alinya project in the Officer Basin near Coober Pedy is tipped to have up to 4.3 trillion cubic feet of gas and 1.3 billion barrels of oil. H3 owns the entire block and is the operator too.
Mapping firm Aerometrex also fell by 18.75 per cent, while miners Investigator Silver, Terramin and Barton Gold all fell too.
