Adelaide family brewery Coopers has released a new beer, after delays to get it right.
Adelaide family brewery Coopers has today released a new non-alcoholic beer, amid rising demand from young Australian drinkers.
Coopers Zero, packaged in a 375 ml silver can, is brewed traditionally with Coopers Pale Malt, Crystal Malt, and Malted Wheat. At only 49 calories, the beer has a smooth finish and a subtle hop aroma.
“Our brewing team were determined not to compromise on the renowned quality and taste of a Coopers beer,” said Coopers managing director Michael Shearer.
“The result is a refreshing, easy-drinking beer with moderate bitterness – a non-alcoholic option brewed in the traditional style, and which suits all drinking occasions.”
Unlike many other non-alcoholic beers available on the market, the beer is brewed using a special yeast and a fully naturally fermented production process to remove the alcohol, brewing products manager Scott Harris told InDaily, attributing the complicated process to the delay in its release.
“Our brewers say it’s the most difficult beer to make and to get right, hence why it’s taken some time,” Harris said.
The beer is the latest permanent addition to the Australian family brewery’s portfolio since Coopers Australian Lager was released in 2023, and the third no or lower alcohol beer (known as NoLo) to be added to the Coopers range.
It was made in response to a rising demand for NoLo beer, the fastest growing beer category in Australia, and a trend driven by Australians aged 18 to 44. Young millennials and Gen Z are twice as likely to consume NoLo beverages compared to older Australians, according to Coopers’ market research.
Shearer said this can be attributed to less stigma surrounding alcohol-free options, and better education for young people.
“What we’ve seen is there’s been a move to with the millennials and the Gen Z’s to the to the NoLo category, who are looking for a healthier, more health conscious and healthier product,” he said.
“More and more Australians want a beer/life balance.”
Coopers Zero is available from today in 374 ml cans at all Dan Murphy’s stores, independent supermarkets, and selected bottle shops.
