Adelaide Airport has commenced the next phase in its airport infrastructure upgrade program, dubbed ‘Project Flight’. Watch the video.
This new phase begins with the demolishing of the hall’s southern ramp to make way for a major expansion to the check-in hall by more than 1,500sqm, increasing capacity by 25 per cent.
The expansion, which is part of a $600 million upgrade of the airport, will include the replacement of all existing check-in equipment with the latest technology like body scanners and 3D x-ray scanners, as well as an upgraded checked baggage security system expected to be in place by the end of the year.
There are also plans for a 10,000sqm expansion to the Northern Terminal, including new domestic gate lounges, aerobridges and office spaces, scheduled for commencement in early 2026, and a 5,500sqm expansion to the Southern Terminal to create two new domestic and three new regional gates commencing in early 2027.
The expansions will also result in nine new aircraft parking spaces across the terminal.
Airport Managing Director Brenton Cox said passenger numbers were at record levels and continue to grow, spurring the Airport’s efforts to provide “the infrastructure required to accommodate that growth.”
He acknowledged there may be growing pains while the expansion progresses, but said the airport would minimise disruptions wherever possible.

It comes after Adelaide Airport opened a new Plaza Premium Lounge in 2023 as part of a recent $200 million expansion and revamp of the airport.
