Prohibition Liquor Co is already close to hitting its $2 million target of capital raised via crowdfunding in the early stages of its campaign, which has so far only been open to those who submitted an Expression of Interest.

InDaily understands it has raised $1.9 million via crowdfunding platform OnMarket at the time of publication, but is chasing $4 million after a solid EOI phase that generated nearly $15 million in potential investments from 4000 supporters.

The South Australian company has its sights set on breaking the $4.3 million liquor industry crowdfunding record achieved by Hellyers Road in May 2024.

Prohibition is looking to raise money to progress plans for its tasting room at the Barossa Valley and enter new international export markets.

OnMarket managing director Tim Eisenhauer said when the raise goes live at 10am Adelaide time on Monday, 3 March, “we expect it to be very lively”.

“Prohibition Liquor Co Pty Ltd is on track to set equity crowdfunding records for 2025, with an incredible expression of interest phase generating close to $15 million worth of potential investments from almost 4,000 people,” he said.

“What truly sets this raise apart is that it’s the first time a liquor company in South Australia has gone through this process. The response from South Australian investors has been massive, which isn’t surprising – Prohibition Liquor Co Pty Ltd is a quintessentially South Australian brand.

“The idea of it being sold to a foreign entity to fund its next stage of growth isn’t something South Australians want to see, and that’s why we’ve had some substantial local investors express interest.”

Backers include Adelaide power couple Ali and Matt Clarke who joined as investors and strategic advisors in Prohibition in mid-February.

“As close friends to Prohibition’s Cofounder Adam Carpenter and his partner Kate, we’ve watched the passion and hard work they have injected into this magnificent distillery – Prohibition is more than just an incredible gin brand—it’s a movement to protect Australia’s craft distilling industry,” said Ali Clarke, the former host of Mix 102.3’s breakfast show before stepping away following a breast cancer diagnosis.

“Matt and I love what this company stands for, and as investors and advisors we want to help it grow while ensuring it stays in Australian hands.”

Founder Adam Carpenter said the duo added “invaluable experience, passion, and a genuine love for the brand”.

“Having Ali and Matt Clarke join Prohibition as both investors and key advisors is an incredible boost to our mission.”
