The SA Greens have preselected a Marion councillor to run for the by-election for the southern suburbs seat relinquished by former Opposition leader David Speirs.
Sarah Luscombe, a Marion councillor since 2022 based in Hallett Cove, will contest the November 16 by-election against Labor candidate Alex Dighton and the Liberal Party’s Amanda Wilson.
At the 2022 state election, the Greens got 11.8 per cent of the primary vote in Black to finish third behind Labor (38.1 per cent) and the Liberal Party (50.1 per cent).
Luscombe, a clinical psychologist, is also running for the top spot on the Greens’ Upper House ticket, which is set to become vacant when Greens veteran Tammy Franks retires from parliament in 2026.
“I love representing my community and am proud of my track record delivering for residents in the Coastal Ward as a local Councillor,” Luscombe said in a statement today.
“I am so excited about continuing to advocate for my community at a state level. As a genuine local, I understand the issues that matter to people in this electorate.”
Luscombe will be taking a leave from Marion Council to contest the by-election.
