Commenting on the opinion piece: An affordable housing model worth revisiting

What a clear and well supported analysis of housing issues in South Australia.

The Premier’s Housing RoadMap proposes changing the name of the SA Housing Authority back to the SA Housing Trust. It would also be productive to reinstate the remit of the SAHT which, as Barbara points out, was initially to attract workers to South Australia.

We know that we need more people to drive the state’s productivity agenda and that the shortage of affordable housing is a barrier to attracting these migrants. We also know that the private sector has the capacity to build about 8000 houses per year using the current methods.

Boosting our housing through production of well designed, well-constructed modular housing is one way of addressing this capacity issue, while also building the skills and manufacturing capability within South Australia.

Peter Martin makes a compelling case for limiting tax concessions for landlords which impede the goal of affordable housing for owner-occupiers.

Once again, we see yet another self-proclaimed proponent of free speech wanting to police expression and impose draconian penalties on those who express views which do not align with their own.

In a democracy such as Australia, speech, regardless of how unpalatable it is must be allowed to flourish without being shut down by overly paternalistic politicians. – Louis Rankin

Commenting on Insider: Norwood parades onto global cool list | Fishy seafood vending push

The Coffin Bay Oyster Farm has had a vending machine outside its restaurant for 2 years – oysters, prawns and scallops. It seems to work well.

It may not sound glamorous but it would be a convenient way to take back seafood to Adelaide at the last minute. A nice change from Krispy Kreme. – Peter Klaosen

The Insider should check out Japan – the home of vending machine culture – where there are fresh and frozen fish and meat vending machines all over including on the streets of major tuna fishing ports. Didn’t see any in airports, but would not be surprised.
