Revealed: $200 million upgrade for Salisbury City Centre
More than 200 new homes, a hotel, shops and commercial facilities are part of a $200 million renewal project planned for the heart of Salisbury. See the images.
More than two hectares of “unprecedented renewal” will be delivered under a $200 million redevelopment plan from the City of Salisbury to upgrade its city centre.
Six new mixed-use sites make up the plan to rejuvenate the heart of Salisbury, with affordable housing, apartments, retirement living and hotel accommodation to be built as part of the ambitious plan.
Under the project revealed today, Church Street will be extended to enhance vehicle and pedestrian access through the city to improve the link with the Salisbury Highway.
SA development and construction groups Buildtec and Catcorp have been hired to deliver the project which is the next stage of the Salisbury City Centre renewal project following the $10 million redevelopment of Church and John Streets in 2023 and the $43 million Salisbury Community Hub, built in 2019.

Alongside the 200 new accommodation options, a multi-deck undercover car park with more than 500 spaces will be built, as well as a ground floor supermarket plus other sites including retail, commercial and hospitality.
Construction is due to start in 2025 on the first two of six sites delivering more than 50 apartments, the car park and commercial and retail offerings. Completion is planned in stages from 2026 onwards.
Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge said she was excited to see “the most significant stage of our renewal vision come to life”.

“The six new sites will give locals and visitors so many diverse opportunities to live, work and be entertained in the heart of our city,” she said.
“The redevelopment will bring residential housing to the city centre for the first time.
“Future residents will live within close walking distance to our brand-new Salisbury Aquatic Centre, the Little Para Linear Trail, the upcoming TreeClimb, and the Salisbury Interchange.”
Planning Minister Nick Champion said the redevelopment had the potential to “completely transform the Salisbury City Centre, turning car parks into a major urban hub where people can live, work and play”.
“The northern suburbs are a booming area and this development will add much needed and diverse housing options.”
Ramsay MP Zoe Bettison said the redevelopment would “significantly boost the local economy, generate hundreds of new jobs, and attract new businesses to Salisbury”.
“It has been a pleasure to see new businesses build and thrive in our community, bringing excitement and pride to the residents of the City of Salisbury,” she said.
