Power reconnected to SA’s west coast as bushfire conditions ease
Electricity has been restored to around 2500 properties in Ceduna, Streaky Bay and other west coast areas after it was switched off this morning due to bushfire concerns.
At around 10.40am, SA Power Networks switched off power to around 2500 properties between Streaky Bay and the Nullabor, citing bushfire risk.
But power restoration was nearly complete by 1.30pm, SAPN said.
“Local bushfire conditions reached the catastrophic category, with winds gusting up to about 85kmh and we acted with urgency to protect the safety of the local community,” SAPN spokesman Paul Roberts said.

Ceduna has a forecast maximum of 33 degrees today.
The Bureau of Meteorology earlier today issued a severe weather warning for damaging north to northwesterly wind gusts reaching 90km/h across the Eyre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Yorke Peninsula, and southern Fleurieu Peninsula this afternoon.
The Bureau said Port Lincoln, Ceduna, Maitland, Kingscote, Elliston and Cleve could be affected by the weather.
The State Emergency Service has advised locals to move vehicles under cover or away from trees and to stay indoors and away from windows while conditions are severe.
