Commenting on the story: SA Liberal right’s clean sweep marks ‘renaissance in conservative values’

They do not understand the majority of Liberal voters in the state and nor do they seem to care. – Gary Anderson
Given the organisational wing has no control whatsoever over the Parliamentary wing it really doesn’t matter. Policy is decided by the Parliamentary wing alone. Unlike SA Labor completely. – Michael Pengilly
The state Liberal Party’s so-called conservative renaissance describes a retrogression to traditionalist, outdated values which should ensure that the party will languish in Opposition in a weakened state for some time.
Despite its creditable performance to date, particularly in restoring the health system, the Labor government has faltered in its puzzling and populist policies on public protest, relocating the police horses and the university mega-merger.
The unfettered implementation of controversial policies needs to be tempered by the influence of strong parliamentary opposition. This will only be possible if the Liberal Party regains stature and credibility. This seems unlikely in the foreseeable future.
At present, the Government can only be held to account by the cross bench bolstering the Liberal minority in the Upper House. This is a tenuous influence on Government accountability, but one is hopeful that it will operate to block the ill-considered and unnecessary rush to merge two of our universities. – Warren Jones
