Commenting on the story: Premier eyes hydrogen fix for home gas connections

South Australia should quickly ban new gas connections – that’s the easy next stage in our transition away from fossil fuels. The harder and expensive part is to change all existing housing, so that gas is slowly eliminated.

Entrenching hydrogen/natural gas blends will unfortunately continue produce significant greenhouse gases. It’s a stopgap, and the investment in hydrogen infrastructure for household supply would be better spent on electrifying homes. – Stephen Morris

Greenwashing the gas supply is not the answer.

Why do we in Australia not have gas in aged care residences? Because it is unhealthy (similar to passive smoking) and dangerous, ie, fire risk. Victoria is leading the way, maybe that’s why our government is resisting it.

I have emailed this government, before Victoria made the decision, to stop new residences having gas connected. The response from the minister was “I am advised by Planning and Land Use Services of the Department for Trade and Investment that there is no current legal avenue available in the State’s planning system, nor National Construction Code, for new housing to require a connection to one form of energy fuel over another (e.g. gas over electricity). I have also consulted with the Hon Tom Koutsantonis MP, Minister for Energy and Mining, in relation to your correspondence. Minister Koutsantonis has advised that the South Australian Government supports the principle of customer choice of fuel for their own energy supply.” – David Tuff

Commenting on the Music review: The Firm presents Marianna Grynchuk

Terrific review Graham, sounded like a fascinating concert. I was so sorry I was unable to attend. Lovely to welcome Marianna back to perform in Adelaide. Great to see the Firm still presenting challenging programs related to new music. – Diana Harris
