Commenting on the story: Striking Adelaide bus drivers demand safety, pay rise

$27 per hour, for all the responsibility for safety as well as service, and for copping routine abuse as well? It’s a gross insult.

They should be paid a minimum of $35 per hour – and yes, that is about 25%, and yes, it’s the least our drivers deserve. – Max Howland

Commenting on the story: Chief Medical Officer says China arrivals COVID testing not needed

The Chief Medical Officer, Paul Kelly, is out of touch with reality in the community. Sitting in an ivory tower making pronouncements about the potential impact on the citizens of Australia isn’t the way to approach this situation.

I am concerned that with the increased number of people travelling from China and its territories there will be new variants introduced to the population. This is something that he himself has been stating over the past year or two.

Regardless of the level of vaccination it should be noted that most people have not had a booster for more than 4 or 5 months, particularly the more vulnerable in the community. We have no idea how effective the vaccinations are after that amount of time.

I am not suggesting that travellers should be stopped from coming in, but testing is a reasonable expectation. Even that will not prevent cases from coming in, but they won’t be at high levels.

Paul Kelly needs to vaccinate himself with a dose of reality. There is fear in the community. – Bob Sibson

Stay informed, daily

Clearly they have no desire to improve the relationship with China. Absolutely stupid decision. Once more our Government bows to the US. Why have a Chief Medical Officer? – Pam Kelly

Commenting on the story: Pandemic knocks Australia’s population planning

It is increasingly worrying and depressing to me that even with an otherwise progressive government, we now learn that there is nary little difference between the two major parties on population and their love affair with increasing population. Continually crying an ageng population as a key driver on this folly.

I despair that the blindingly obvious is that we must learn to live with the population we have and stop importing people, right now. Our infrastructure is already groaning under the weight of an already too high population: hospitals, ambulances, doctors, education system, roads, housing, food production and a long-suffering environment.

The last 20 years of growing levels of immigration hasn’t fixed these so called problems. Continuing down this path can only lead to further problems and obvious disaster. – Peter Hayward
