Commenting on Your views: on Adelaide’s squeaky wheels

Well said Greg Hart! I’m still very proud of the whinging I did about the loss of valuable farmland and lack of infrastructure included in the developmental nightmare that is now modern day Mount Barker.

A decade later and everything we objected to about that proposal has come to pass, though luckily we haven’t had concerns about catastrophic bushfire engulfing a town with no way of escape put to the test … yet.

Like the North Adelaide development, few object to anything new in totality; rather, that the add-ons or caveats that don’t make a buck for developers, but do make a vibrant and vital community, are never included in the plans. I’ll happily keep “whinging” if that’s what is needed, as futile as it seems. – Clare Bradley

Commenting on the story: Height, heritage concerns over 21-storey Rundle St tower

I’m intrigued by the euphemism ‘challenging’. It’s crept into the language to replace ‘bad’, ‘unacceptable’, ‘revolting’, ‘wrong’, ‘ugly’ ‘disruptive’ whether applied to human behaviour, or in this case to the inappropriate placement of a very tall building. – Angela Bannon

Too tall, out of scale with its location and all about money money money- not even a nod to the real housing crisis that leaves people sleeping in tents in parklands and sheltering in cars and  doorways. – Josephine Shearer

This proposed high rise building is completely out-of-place in this area of Adelaide. which to me is the only one that is still looking anything like “old Adelaide” that I know.

I love to come to Adelaide and stay in this area, in the apartments in Liberman Close and walk into the East End and enjoy the vibe. So close to the Botanic Gardens for a morning walk and many great cafes and stores.

Do not let Adelaide disintegrate any more. Leave the high rise to the West End and leave the East so that I can show my great-grandchildren some Adelaide history. – Geraldine Gillen
