Commenting on the story: Tougher demolition rules proposed for SA character homes

About time. So very many Adelaide suburbs have and still are being ruined by the most ghastly designs of buildings.

The types of material being used are cheap and will not last, unlike the older types of buildings. All the beautiful gardens are being destroyed continuously. I do hope the State Planning Commission will approve this. – Belinda Meyers

The destruction of beautiful homes and changing the whole character of suburbs has gone on for too long. Without these changes Adelaide will be full of rendered boxes with no appeal at all, like everywhere else. Character matters. – Di Martin

Wonderful news. There are too many lightweight box homes with no eaves, cross ventilation, no parking, too many hard surfaces and most importantly no trees or greenscape on the new building sites. The city is getting hotter and we need to retain old homes and gardens. – Kerry White

The demolition of our historic homes to take advantage of the land size simply to construct apartments and other multi dwellings is a travesty. This legislation will help preserve the character and charm of our beautiful established suburbs. – Trevor Elburn

At last! And need stricter rules for saving mature trees. – Merilyn Kuchel

This sounds like an improvement. Would be very welcome but will it seems rely on strong and active community voices at council level. – Chris Shakes
