A 60-year-old northern suburbs man will appear in court today after being charged with possessing instructions and taking steps to manufacture explosives.
Police said they arrested the man after explosive substances and equipment were found at a property at Direk yesterday.
Serious and Organised Crime Branch officers searched an address on Desyllas Drive in relation to an ongoing investigation, with police stating they found and seized instructions, precursor chemicals and equipment capable of being used for the manufacturing of explosives.
Members from STAR Bomb Response Unit are disposing of the explosive substances.
Police said that some neighbouring residents were evacuated for safety reasons.
The charged man will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.
