Commenting on the story: Public servants warned over $2b train privatisation
The previous Liberal government, in its haste to legitimise the privatisation of the trains, held a survey asking the public’s opinion of the system.
The result was an overwhelming endorsement (85%+ positive response) of it. That’s an A grade in anyone’s book. But private profit was more important.
However, the deed was done, and I don’t see any logic in returning it to the public if the cost means a big hit to taxpayers’ hip pocket. Perhaps a new survey could guide the present government. Would they be any more likely to listen to the public? – Ross Heitmann

I also note in your article, Premier’s own union joins chorus against Labor over injured worker ‘betrayal’, the Attorney General Kyam Maher defended his government’s decision to go after the lump-sum entitlements of seriously injured workers, while at the same time taking a rather opportunistic moment to brag about its commitment to workplace safety, stating its intention to introduce Industrial Manslaughter legislation.
Let me see if I understand this correctly. The Attorney General would have us believe that his government is going to introduce tougher laws to protect the safety of workers, while at the very same time, weaken the laws that compensate the most seriously injured worker, after that worker sustains his or her injuries.
I am struggling to find words that might fairly describe the ridiculous picture of hypocrisy that SA Labor has so quickly painted since returning to power on the back of the union movement and worker’s rights. – Andrea Madeley
