Notes on Adelaide podcast: What the hell just happened?

In one of the most emphatic election results in recent South Australian history, the one-term Marshall Liberal Government was swept aside by the Peter Malinauskas-led Labor party. “We had a few new members who were a bit stupid,” confesses one Liberal veteran. How can the party regroup after losing swathes of its heartland – and what can we expect from the new regime?

In this week’s episode, we talk to two of the toughest political campaigners of past decades: long-time Labor Premier Mike Rann and Howard era federal Liberal minister Amanda Vanstone.

“We had a few new members who were a bit stupid,” says the forthright Vanstone in her analysis of the disaster for her party.

InDaily’s political reporter Tom Richardson also joins us to give his views on what happened to the Liberals – and what we can expect from a Malinauskas government.
