Today, readers comment on a Goodwood project, “L-plate Labor” and Marshall’s Omicron timing claim.

Commenting on the story: Goodwood overpass and bikeway plan divides community
As someone who uses the bikeway and rides to work everyday, the overpass bridge is not needed.
Cyclists that head to the city use the level crossing located at either Leader street or Victoria Street. The only time I cross under the train station is when there is a freight train and it’s too long to wait. Additionally, bike riders want straight ramps where you can get some momentum up and not curved ones as it’s harder to ride up.
There is little benefit to the overpass and I am not looking forward to the inevitable detours to go around the construction site. – Julian Thompson
This will be a huge improvement for the Mike Turtur bikeway from the city to Glenelg.
Currently cyclists have to dismount to detour through the underpass, which is impractical for those wearing cleats. Most cyclists detour to the Victoria Street level crossing rather than use the underpass. The South Rd overpass works well with cyclists sharing the track with pedestrians. – Peter Mayer
Another grand scheme that has no shame in spending exorbitant amounts to create another legacy project for someone. The existing underpass is already there and offers good access to Goodwood Station platforms and anyone seeking safe access across the railway corridor.
Has anyone considered that the subway access can be modified at a fraction of the cost to allow bikes, pedestrians and wheelchair users (complying ramp grades and features) without entering into the need for stairs and elevators to take to a higher level so that you can access the lower levels of platforms, etc.
Wheelchairs will have to go all the way up the proposed ramps to access the platforms, and then up and down again to get to ground level the other side.
A concrete bridge with privacy screens, balustrade barriers, continuous curved ramps, two elevator structures and stairs. And bike riders love it? Is this the result of an ill-conceived concept and design that came from the same team that gave us the Mike Turter Bikeway upgrade from Greenhill Rd to Musgrave St that is still unfinished because of the blown out costs, flawed design and last minute modifications? – Sozo Nikias
The inclusion of elevators to access the train station is a definite improvement to the original design, but why not include a new tram stop so commuters could easily interchange between the trams and the trains? – Stephen Muller
Commenting on the story: Done like a dinner’: Marshall dives into shallow ‘pool-itics’
If Malinauskus has the L-plates on, what about Marshall’s new Treasurer, who hasn’t even been named and hasn’t even sat down to take the test for his or her L-plates? – Phil Schmidt
Commenting on the story: Out of the frying pan for Frydenberg as Marshall prepares for ‘tight race’
The claim by the Premier who was reported as saying “Omicron wasn’t discovered before we opened the borders” is incorrect.
It was discovered in South Africa and information was released to the world authorities three weeks before the SA borders were opened. The Premier made comment on it prior to opening the borders. We were told it was a more virulent strain, but the symptoms were not as severe as Delta. It still killed people however. – Malcolm Crout
Steven Marshall wrong again. Omicron was indeed active before the SA borders were opened. Wasn’t he listening and taking notice? – Di Martin
