Body of teenager found in River Murray

UPDATED: Police have recovered the body of a 17-year-old girl who fell from a houseboat into the River Murray on New Year’s Eve.

The Adelaide Hills girl fell into the river south of Swan Reach, with the alarm raised at 9.15pm after she did not resurface.

Police and the SES assisted along with members of the public looked for her but she wasn’t found.

The search resumed on New Year’s Day.

Late yesterday police said the teenager’s body was recovered from the river near where she had fallen in.

Another search for two men believed missing after they took a pedal boat onto Lake Bonney at Barmera on New Year’s Eve was called off after the pair were later found safe.

The search began after the men took the boat onto the lake near at 2.20am and it was found soon after more than a kilometre away.

An extensive search was launched including police, SES and a police aircraft but the men were not found.

At 4pm, police said they had identified the two men involved and confirmed that they were safe and well.
