The amendments to ICAC legislation strongly opposed by Commissioner Vanstone (and since passed) are without any doubt an effort to remove the behaviour of Parliamentarians from the scrutiny of ICAC.

There is no more proof of this (without having to read the proposed amendments) in the fact that the vote was unanimous.
I put it to you that the only other time a vote in Parliament is unanimous is when politicians agree to accept a pay rise proposed by the remuneration committee. That is to say, when the matter is in their own self-interest they vote as a unanimous bloc. – Michael O’Neil
The Bill to reform and weaken the SA ICAC’s reach and independence simply confirms what many people already think about politicians generally: that some politicians, be they state or federal, believe they are above the law.
This Nixonian view of how politics is played is fundamentally wrong and at odds with democratic principles of transparency and accountability and should not be given even a nanogram of oxygen.
Individuals who engage in corrupt or other conduct contemplated by the ICAC Act should be investigated, exposed and should be held to account. – Gilbert Aitken
