Biotech executive Thomas Mitchell has been named the inaugural CEO for Adelaide poo laboratory BiomeBank.

BiomeBank was founded to store donated healthy stools used to help patients fighting inflammatory bowel conditions through a procedure called faecal microbiota transplantation.

Mitchell previously helped lead micribiome biotech companies in the United States and United Kingdom.

He also spent six years in the Australian Army.

Mitchell said he hoped to use his international experience to help expand the South Australian company.

“The conditions are really right, in this space, to do something really big in Australia,” he said.

“It is an exciting opportunity to return to Australia and be based in Adelaide, joining a world-class team of microbiome experts to develop microbiome therapeutics.”

Global food company Beston has announced Katarina Li as General Manager, Nutritionals for the Adelaide-headquartered business.

Li has worked for major dairy companies in New Zealand and Australia, including Synlait, Murray Goulburn, Nuchev and Fonterra.

Most recently she held the Head of Exports role with Murray River Organics.

South Australian trade training and assessment organisation PEER announced former state politician Paul Caica as its new chair.

A Labor minister – who retired from parliament in 2018 – Caica oversaw the Employment, Training and Further Education portfolio.

He was also a firefighter for almost 20 years and the SA United Fire Fighters Union Secretary for six years before becoming the union’s National Secretary.

In a statement, Caica said he would assist the organisation to expand interstate.

“We are well known in South Australia, but I would like to see us continue to innovate and extend our reach beyond our borders – our objective should be to become significant in Australia,” he said.

Port Adelaide Football club has announced Christine Zeitz and Kathy Nagle as its two new board members.

Zeitz, a defence, security and ICT expert, has filled a vacancy left by Amanda Vanstone last year.

A statement from the club said Zeitz had more than 25 years of experience working in Europe and Asia, including with leading defence and space firms BAE Systems and Leidos Australia.

She remains the Asian Pacific General Manager for Northrop Grumman Corporation and is a board member for SBS and the Centre for Defence Industry Capability.

Zeitz was also formerly an active member of boards and councils including the Adelaide Festival Centre Trust, SA Premier’s Economic Advisory Council and Flinders University Council.

Henley Beach’s Western Hospital CEO Nagle has also joined the board as a member-elected director.

As well as her role with Port Adelaide, Nagle is a member of the Lakeside Retirement Villages and St Michael’s College boards.

Marion Council has advertised for a new CEO on Seek following the resignation of Adrian Skull last month.

Skull was in the role for five years following almost a decade across positions in local government, including as CEO of Yankalilla District Council.

The advertised position described Marion Council as a “highly regarded and progressive council with a reputation for service quality, constructive culture and business excellence”.

It said the role would require “an impressive career in executive management” as well as “high calibre interpersonal and communication skills”. Applications close March 7.

Not-for-profit community health organisation Arthritis SA is also seeking someone for its top job, advertising for a CEO to work closely with the Board, as is Adelaide Football Club, as previously reported by InDaily.
