Upcoming food and wine happenings, including a bourbon-themed evening hosted by Hain’s & Co’s tasting club for women, Plant 4 Bowden’s free Gin N Jazz celebration, and the National Wine Centre’s Seafood and Sparkling Dinner.
Hains & Co’s tasting club for women, Pouring Ribbons, is this month hosting a bourbon initiation session hosted by Erica Richards on Wednesday, October 14, at 7pm. The event includes a curated bourbon flight and nibbles. Bookings are essential as the session is limited to 16 participants. Tickets are $65.
Plant 4 Bowden welcomes all to Gin N Jazz, a free event to be held this Saturday night from 5pm. There will be a gin happy hour from 5pm to 6pm, and local SA distillery ‘Black Cat Gin’ will be offering tastings. Eateries will be open from 5pm to 9pm with the Plant 4 Bar open until late, serving SA wine, local craft beer, kombucha and cold-pressed juice, spirts and cocktails.
Live music will be provided by Soylent Green jazz band from 6pm to 10pm.
This month, the National Wine Centre of Australia is hosting a series of events forming Sparkling Fest. On Thursday, October 15, guests will indulge in a stunning four-course seafood dinner designed by Executive Chef Steven Clark, working in harmony with the paired Deviation Road sparkling wines. Tickets to the dinner cost $180 per person. There will also be a Sparkling Across the World Masterclass on Sunday, October 18. Special sparkling and Champagne wine flights are available for purchase at the Wined Bar until October 18.
In lieu of Oktoberfest celebrations this year, Offbeat Socks and Big Shed Brewing Concern have teamed up to deliver Socktoberfest 2020 at Big Shed Brewing, 1154 Old Port Road, Royal Park, from noon to 9pm. Guests are encouraged to don their favourite funky socks and grab a beer. There will be prizes up for grabs and Offbeat Socks available for purchase.
The Fruitful Pursuit’s Wine Playground event is returning to Adelaide, happening over two days at The Stag Public House. A total of 36 winemakers will pour more than 120 wines across the two days, as well as participating in open-air forums discussing the local, national and international industry. Big Easy Drinks will be running a bottle shop on the day, there will be pizza by Anchovy Bandit, coffee from Mischief Brew, Chocolate by Steven Ter Horst, cheese by section 28 and tunes from Oisima and Skin Contact. Vegan Festival will be held at Rymill Park/Murlawirrapurka from October 31 to November 1, and will this year blend live and streamed elements for the first time. Go along to sample vegan fare, shop, take part in workshops, listen to live music, and hear speakers deliver their wisdom virtually via big screens. The varied program includes yoga sessions, children’s activities, a sustainable fashion parade, and speakers discussing a wide variety of topics.
Producers in the Coonawarra region will host more than 60 free and ticketed events throughout October as part of Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations. Highlighting the Coonawarra wine region’s signature red wine, Cabernet Sauvignon, the festival will ‘celebrate, educate and activate the senses’ with vertical tasting flights, blending masterclasses, dinners with winemakers, a golf day, and live music, all over the course of the month. CheeseFest+FERMENT festival is back, but in a smaller format called Gather & Graze and at temporary home The Market Shed on Holland. Gather & Graze will feature live cooking demonstrations, chef stalls, niche bars and produce, with demonstrations from Emma McCaskill, Karena Armstrong, Rose Adam, and Paul Baker. Local producers include Udder Delights, Second Valley Dairy, Woodside Cheese Wrights, Brewed by Belinda, Coriole Vineyards, My Grandma Ben, and more. Tickets must be purchased online.
Hosted by Murdoch Hill Wines at Oakbank and with chefs from Share and Shakermaker Foods, A Share Summer Fundraiser is a long lunch of nose-to-tail pork donated by Jason Stephenson of Boston Bay Smallgoods, with veggies by food rescue champions Oz Harvest SA. The donated pork is free-range and ethically-raised. With all proceeds going to a charitable cause, tickets are $120 and include bus transport from Adelaide CBD to Murdoch Hill, matched with Murdoch Hill wines, a luxe five-course lunch, and music by DJs all afternoon.
SeaLink has launched a new series of Kangaroo Island experiences: a one-day Kangaroo Island Sip & See Day Tour, a one-night escape package, and a two-day ultimate tour — including gin tastings at Kangaroo Island Spirits and wine tasting at False Cape Wines cellar door. With pick-ups from either Adelaide or Cape Jervis, tours include return ferry transfers and air-conditioned coach touring with a local Kangaroo Island guide, stopping at attractions such as Raptor Domain, Clifford’s Honey Farm Shop, and Seal Bay Conservation Park.
